Residents and visitors to Nuwara Eliya were greeted with ground frost this week, as the Meteorology Dept forecast mild winter weather phenomena such as colder nights and mornings, mist, ground frost and daytime dry weather.

‘Little England’ continues to experience extreme cold weather with temperatures falling to 4 to 5 degrees celsiusat dawn. Elsewhere in the country, dry weather and cold nights and mornings will prevail.

Meteorologists warned of misty conditions especially, in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces in the mornings. Motorists islandwide were warned to be cautious due to misty weather. No rainfall has been reported throughout the country.

Our Nuwara Eliya Correspondent Shelton Hettiarachchi captured a sheet of ground frost spread across the Nuwara Eliya Golf course. Amazed by the frost that looked more like a sheet of snow, visitors and residents were seen capturing the moment using their phone cameras.
