Madhuka, Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year at Ananda

Shuttler Madhuka Dulanjana was named the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year at the Ananda College Colours Night 2016 held at the Kularatne Hall in Colombo.  Madhuka, 19, is a shuttler with a good background in badminton. He has represented Sri Lanka at senior level and at junior level while earning the Sri Lanka top rank in Under-19 age category in 2016.

Under his captaincy, Ananda College won the National Schools Games, Inter-Schools Badminton Championship and the Henry Steele Olcott Trophy in the Under-19 age category. He also captained the Under-19 Sri Lanka team at Asian Junior Championship and at the Sushant Chipalkti Memorial International Tournament held in Pune, India in 2016.

He was a member of the Sri Lanka Under-19 team that represented the World Junior Championship held in Spain and Asian Junior Championship held in Thailand and was a member of the Sri Lanka Under-17 team that participated at the Under-17 Asian Junior Championship held in Indonesia in 2013.
He had the privilege of representing Sri Lanka at the South Asian Games that won the Silver medal, Asian Badminton Championship, the Tata India International Open Championship — all held in 2016 and the Asian Development Training Programme held in Malaysia in 2015. Throughout his career Madhuka has won numerous titles and awards at different age levels. Among them are the School Badminton Merit Colours in 2010 and 2011, Merit Colours in Western Province Colours in 2014, Schools Colours in 2015 and Western Province Schools Colours in 2016.

In addition at the Ananda College Colours Night 2016 Madhuka was presented the ‘Anada Padma Award’. Others who were presented with the ‘Anada Padma Award were Jith Avindra Silva in Athletics, Dilruk S. Maithree in Basketball, Sachindu Dananga and Hiranya Prathibha in Karate, Pasindu Herath in Police Cadetting, K.I. Alexander in Power Lifting, Supun Warusawithana and Sandesh Nissanka in Table Tennis and Dinu Udara de Silva in Wushu.
The chief guest at the event was Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Chief of staff of Sri Lanka Army while Lt. Col. Jagath Alwis (Prefect of Games) and Sitendra Senaratne (President of Old Anandians Sports Club) participated as the special guests. - NA
