IGP fails in cocktail courtesy

Former Police Chief N.K. Illangakoon was annoyed that his successor Pujith Jayasundera had not followed a time-honoured tradition.

That was for the incumbent Police Chief to personally extend an invitation to his predecessor for a cocktail party to mark the Police Department’s 150th anniversary.

The invitation, instead, had been handed down to Mr. Illangakoon by a Sub Inspector. Leave aside traditions, courtesy demanded that an IGP invite his predecessor, personally.
