The 21st Travel Trade Sports Club Badminton Championships 2016 sponsored by Serendib Leisure Hotels for the 6th year, will take place today (September 4) at St. Thomas’ College Indoor Sports Stadium, Mt. Lavinia, commencing 9 am.

For the first time, the Tournament will be conducted on a Open Team Championship basis- A ‘Tie’ consisting of a Men’s Singles and Doubles, Women’s Singles and Double and a Mixed Doubles. Additionally, the Veterans Tournament on a new format for Men Over-40 and Women Over-35, also on a Team Championship basis- A ‘Tie’ consisting of Men’s Singles & Doubles and a Mixed Doubles.

The 20 Participating Teams

SriLankan Airlines, Serendib Leisure Management, Habarana Village, Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Gateway Airport Garden Seeduwa, Walkers Tours Leisure Inbound, Metro Travels, Aitken Spence Travels, The Kingsbury, Jetwing Travels, Citrus Waskaduwa, Mermaid Hotel, Kalutara and Green Holidays (all participating in the ‘Open’ and ‘Veterans’), Paradise Beach Hotel, Negombo, Viluxur Holidays, Luxe Asia, Traveler Global, Holiday Plan and Diethlm Travels (all participating in the ‘Open’ only.)

At last year’s tournament at the same venue, Hotel Topaz Kandy from McLarens Group won the Men’s Open, beating Citrus Waskaduwa, and also the Women’s Open, beating Serendib Leisure; SriLankan Airlines won the Men’s Veterans Tournament, beating Kingsbury.

Reigning Champions, Hotel Topaz, Kandy, will be a notable absentee this year.=
