Ragama CC demolished in what could be a record in local domestic cricket, Saracens SC in just one day in the three day AIA Premier league inter-club cricket encounter by an innings and 159 runs in the match played at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.

The morning session of play on day one saw Ragama CC invited to take first lease of the wicket making a formidable score of 333 thanks to a fine 145 by Roshen Silva who put on a 135 run stand for the fifth wicket with Sameera de Zoysa (65).

Saracens SC batsmen put in a pathetic batting performance in both innings. They were unable to reach the three figures being bundled out for meager scores of 79 and 98 runs. Apart from Mohamed Aslam who was the top scorer in the two innings the others failed to make any impression.

The left and right spin combination of Amila Aponso and Sanjaya Fernando wrecked the Saracens SC batting. Saracens SC went down meekly in the first inning and then made to follow on succumbed to Sanjaya and Amila who together shared eight wickets for Ragama CC to gain an innings victory.

Tamil Union having ended day on 309 for 2 with Dhananjaya de Silva slamming a 150 was involved in two fruitful partnerships, first an opening wicket stand of 126 with Sithara Gimhan and the other a 125-run stand for the second wicket with Tharanga Paranavithana.

Tharanga who was unbeaten on 66 continued to torment the Chilaw Marians as he added a further 51 runs to end his innings making a 117 which included nine boundaries and a six.

Chilaw Marians right arm spinner Maduka Liyanapathiranage ended with a nine wicket haul which was his career best. Chilaw Marians in their turn were 43 for 2.

Moors SC took the upper hand against CCC on the second day in the match played at the CCC ground. Moors SC resuming their second innings on 44 for 3 went into lunch on 186 for 5 to have a massive lead of 308 runs.

The highlight of the first day’s proceedings was the eight wicket haul of left arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara which helped Moors SC to skittle out CCC for a paltry 79 after Moors SC had made a score of 201.

SSC was made to struggle for their runs by the Colts CC bowlers on the second day of the match played at the Colts ground. SSC in reply to Colts CC’s 225 was in a strong position of 123 for 3.

The second day’s play saw the Colts bowlers under control as SSC apart from a knock of 92 by Dimuth Karunaratne the others failed to make any impression and was struggling on 209 for 8 at lunch.

An unbeaten 101 by Rumesh Buddika supported by half tons from Navindu Vithanage and Nisal Randika enabled Galle CC to come out on top against Badureliya SC in the match played at Galle.

Galle CC after bowling out their opponents for 160 resuming on their overnight score of 146 for went into lunch on 301 for 4.

Army SC has taken a first inning lead over Bloomfield when play stopped for lunch on day two in the match played at Reid Avenue. Army SC made 212 and restricted Bloomfield for a score of 194.
