Lankan juvenile TT players excel in Pakistan

Sri Lanka’s juvenile table tennis players excelled at the recently concluded South Asia Hopes Week and Challenge Table Tennis programme held at the Toyota Gymnasium of the Habib Public School in Karachi, Pakistan organised by the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation in collaboration with the International TT Federation’s Development Department.

The programme was dominated by Sri Lanka Table Tennis players as they won the team event while girls Kavishka Kavindi and Sanduni Prabuddhika secured the respective first and second places in the Girls Singles event and in the Boys Singles event Chanaka Sri Bandara and Dhanushka Wijesinghe ended up as first and second runners-up respectively.

Proceedings commenced of the programme on January 8th and came to an end on February 2, 2016. A select group with a highly detailed itinerary organised, the first four days were allocated for a training camp. Players from the sub-continent travelled from Sri Lanka, Maldives were hosted by Pakistan gathered in an excellent venue with perfect conditions. The first session was staged from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. followed by a 15 minute summary, the second session was from 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. with one hour lecture with the day ending at 6.30 p.m.

A total of six coaches attended to support the efforts with a trio from Sri Lanka in M. Chatura Dushan, Rajapaksha Sampath and Hirath Champika along with a one from Maldives and two coaches from Pakistan. The ITTF Development Department is fulfilling wonderful work with the ITTF Hopes Programme by extensively helping cadets worldwide not only to improve their levels but to blossom into high level players.

Pakistan Table Tennis federation had invited a large number of specialists in various fields to address the young TT players of the Asian region was highlighted by Waheed Mughal, the Dean Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Education at the University of Information Technology in Peshawar delivered a talk on physical fitness and nutrition for the youngsters.

The young sporty Sri Lankan paddlers along with the trio of Lankan coaches received high accolades for their art of superb playing and the coaches for their high knowledge of the techniques of the game which helped every one at the programme that brought knowledge to the other countries of the high standard of Sri Lanka Table Tennis.

Organising this sort of valuable programmes the Pakistan TT Federation’s motive is to regain its lost status in the world table tennis circle and they explained the extensive plans to improve the level of players by conducting training camps.
