Derrick J wins Gold Award in Australia
View(s):Sri Lankan-born Derrick Junkeer or Derrick J as he is known in Australia won the Gold Award at the annual Serendib Awards Ceremony which recognises innovative, inspirational and professional Sri Lankans of Vision. This presentation was made at a gala ceremony in Melbourne on October 2.
Derrick J received this award in recognition of his services to charity in that he not only organised a function on July 19 in Melbourne to recognise prominent musicians with Sri Lankan roots but also raised Rs. 1.8 million for the Lions Sight First Hospital in Hendala Sri Lanka, which provides cataract operations to those who cannot afford them.
In Sri Lanka he did a similar show in October to recognise prominent musicians from Sri Lanka, a musical concert in Aid of Sight First Hospital and raised close to Rs 3 million rupees.
