Neyara Weerawansa is Otters Under 12 tennis champ

Neyara Weerawansa of the British School in Colombo became the Otter Aquatic Club Under-12 girls champion when she beat Denuli Jayakodi 6/2, 6/0 in the B Grade Open final played at the Otter Aquatic Club Tennis courts. Neyara, a player with lots of promise had it easy against her rival Denuli who could not match the speed of the British School player. Denuli managed to put some pressure on Neyara in the opening set but she was comprehensively outsmarted in the second set. Earlier Neyara also partnered Anjalika Kurera in the girls’ doubles and beat Tarani Alexandra and Tuvini de Alwis to win the doubles title.

Last month Neyara clinched a quadruple crown in the Nuwara Eliya Hill Club ‘B’ Grade Ranking Tennis Tournament. She won the Singles championships of Girls’ Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 age categories and also pocketed the Under-14 Girls’ Doubles title partnering with Anjalika Kurera.
