A strong pace-spin bowling combination guided D.S. Senanayake College ‘B’ to register their third successive victory over De Mazenod College, Kandana in the ongoing Inter Schools Under 15 Division II cricket tournament match played at Kandana.

Batting first DSS totalled 200 in 48.4 overs with Chamath Yatawara top scoring with a well compiled 42 while Lahiru Samaranayake, Kulindu Ransika and Sonal Kulasekarage making useful contributions with 31, 28 and 24 respectively. Mazenodian Jude Chamodh was the most successful bowler to capture 4 for 41.

De Mazenod chasing a victory target of 200 were making steady progress when Shenal Moras held the fort making a fine 51. With the introduction of off spinner Kalana Jayawardene and right arm leg spinner Lahiru Samaranayake the Mazedonian batsmen found run getting difficult and were dismissed for 184 in 45.3 overs. Jayawardene bowling to a good line length captured 3 for 35 and Lahiru Samaranayake bowled his leg spinners and top spinners with good variations captured 2 for 44. Earlier paceman Missaka Nadun trouble the front line batsmen to claim 3 for 24.

DSS defeated President’s College ‘B’, Kotte and Wesley College ‘B’ in the earlier two matches played. In the first match DSS ‘B’ skipper Sonal Kulasekerage cracked a fighting century and Kulindu Ransika (68) along with Ranidu Samarasinghe (20) helped DSS to post a huge score of 263 in 44 overs against President’s College. In reply President’s College could only muster 119 for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 44 overs and again Lahiru Samaranayake combining with Janith Buddika troubled the Kotte batsmen. Samaranayake claimed 2 for 15 while Buddika captured 3 for 16.

Leg spinner Lahiru Samaranayake was the main destroyer for Wesley in their match played at the Wesley Grounds. Wesley struggled to score only 66 for 9 in 24 overs found Samaranayake unplayable as he captured 4 for 4 with good support coming from Shashira Wanigabahu with 2 for 14.
It took only 10 overs for the Senanayakians to reach Wesley total as Ranidu Samarasinghe making a brisk unbeaten 29.

Lahiru Samaranayake is heading for rich harvest of wickets in this tournament as he had claimed 8 wickets so far in 3 matches.
