“The importance of sports in the life of a young student is invaluable and goes much further than the basic answers. Sports instill lessons that are essential in the life of a student.”

Excerpts from the speech of the principal, N.L.M. Arunashanta delivered at the annual Athletic Meet of Regent International College, Gampaha. It was held on March 20 at the Sri Bodhi Grounds in Gampaha.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Udaya Weerasinghe, the 400m medalist at the Asian Games. Gandhi House became the champions and the runners-up of the meet were Lincoln. According to the principal the most important component is a good core of coaches and teachers in charge that understand the great responsibility trust upon them. The second component is the ability to capture the admiration and the trust of the students. The final component and the most crucial of all is the support that comes from the school community and administration. At Regent International all communities work in harmony to achieve the highest of standards for the child’s progress and success. – NA
