The eight teams to qualify to the quarter finals of the first ever schools invitation double wicket cricket tournament conducted by the Old Bens Sports Club and the Cricket Wing of St. Benedict’s was found after the completion of the pre-quarter finals which took place at St Benedict’s ground in Kotahena yesterday.
From the sixteen teams that were invited to participate St. Mary’s Chilaw failed to turn up which resulted in Ananda receiving a walk over to advance to the quarter-finals.

The other teams to qualify to the quarter-finals were St. Peter’s, hosts St. Benedict’s, Royal Colombo, S. Thomas’, De Mazenod, St. Sebastian’s and Zahira.
The quarter-finals are scheduled to be worked off from 9.00am onwards with the semi-finals from 2.30pm and the final slotted to be played at 5.00pm.
The tournament is being conducted in collaboration with the 150 years celebrations of St. Benedict’s. Felix Dias a former first eleven cricket captain of St Benedict’s along with his wife will grace the awards ceremony as the chief guest.

Pre-quarter-finals: St. Peter’s 47 beat St. Anne’s Kurunegala 13; St. Benedict’s 45 beat St. Anthony’s Katugastota 16; Royal Colombo 41 beat St. Aloysius Galle 5; S. Thomas’ 13 beat St. John’s Jaffna 9; De Mazenod 29 beat St. Joseph’s 28; St. Sebastian’s 25 beat Prince of Wales 20; Zahira Colombo 27 beat De La Salle Mutwal 20.

Today’s quarter-final schedule:
St Peter’s vs St Benedict’s. Royal vs S. Thomas’. Ananda vs De Mazenod. St Sebastian’s vs Zahira.
