After being runners-up at the last two championships to Galadari Hotel, the Mount Hotel was able to overcome their strong contenders with ease to win the 3rd Hotel Carrom Championship. Galadari, Mount Lavinia, Kingbury, The Sands, Eden Resort and Spa and Ramada Hotel participated in this year’s championship with eight teams competing saw the tournament coming to a very successful close. The organisers of the event, the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation stated that they will play the tournament next year to a new system of play which will allow more participation with the men and women vying separately in their events. The system will be announced prior to next year’s tournament.

In this year’s team events – each team consisted of six players (3 men and 3 women) with a match consisted of two men’s/two women’s singles, a men’s/a women’s doubles and a mixed double, a total of seven matches. Each team had to win four out of seven to win a game. Two players participating in the men’s/women’s singles will not be allowed to play in the doubles event together. One will play doubles with the third player while the other will play in the mixed doubles.

The Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka has been organising this tournament in order to promote carrom among hotels, to give the hotel staffs a recreational facility apart from their day to day work stress, to promote camaraderie and friendship among hotel employees and give them a target to win and bring credit to their work places. Chief Guest, Imthiaz J. Cader, Managing Director of Ramada Colombo distributed awards to the winners at the conclusion of the tournament.
