SLCF champs at Hyderabad Twenty20 contest

The Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation (SLCF) team led by S. Thomas’ College all-rounder Thilaksha Sumanasiri emerged champions at the 2nd Rajiv Gandhi Under-19 Twenty20 International Cricket Championship held in Hyderabad, India last month.

The championship, besides Sri Lanka and hosts India, featured teams from Bangladesh, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The competition was held from January 19 to 25 in Hyderabad.

In the final Sri Lanka beat India Cricket Foundation by 4 wickets with Sanesh Fernando winning the man-of-the-match award for his excellent knock of 53 runs. In the first round games played earlier, Sachith Pushpakumara and Himasha Liyanage won man-of-the-match awards.Himasha Liyanage won the Best Upcoming Cricketer award while Aravinda Deshabhakthi claimed the Best Bowler’s award of the tournament.

Sri Lanka played three first round games, a semi-final and the final and lost only against Pakistan, who were later beaten by the Islanders in the game for the final berth.

The team under the captaincy of Thilaksha Sumanasiri comprised Madushan Ravichandrakumar, Nishan Perera, Aravinda Deshabhakthi, Hasitha Lakshan, Chalaka Shehan, Sanesh Fernando, Asanka Wijemanna, Sachith Puhpakumara, Himasha Liyanage, Chalitha Lakshan, Shiran Rathnayake and Kasun Tharaka.
