‘Hora’ Police

The new sports boss summoned a meeting of all the associations that he has not met so far. Spotting a face which he said was often seen on Facebook, the new boss asked him why he was often referred to as ‘Hora’? It looks as if the new boss is a Facebook fan or else how can he spot people easily when they are meeting for the first time.

Big Match fever

It is Big Match time once again. This time too umpires claim that the matches are not properly distributed. It is also said that some umpires get the popular and most sought-out games. One disgruntled umpire has sent a letter of demand and is willing to go to courts to settle the issue. Then there is this umpire whose son is playing for a leading school and wants to ‘stand’ in that particular game so that he can support his son’s team and curry favours to him when he is on the field.

Help at hand

A leading sports stadium in Colombo has a new man-in-charge who knows nothing about grounds or how to maintain it. He has no clue about the tracks. Earlier he had been attached to a Pradeshiya Sabha. Insiders say that this man is a favourite of the New Boss and even comes from the New Boss’ home town. So it looks as if history is repeating itself. If you know someone at the top naturally he is bound to help when the situation arises.

Not done ole boy!

At a Foundation ceremony in Australia a leading Sri Lankan fast bowler has behaved very badly. People bought tables that were auctioned to sit with their favourite Lankan cricketers and this cricketer refused to sit at his designated table and sat with some others. He is also reported have been very rude to a former Sri Lanka ‘A’ team coach, now residing in Australia.

The favoured lot

All eyes are glued to the TV these days due to the ongoing Cricket World Cup. Several local officials have gone to New Zealand and Australia to watch these games. A host of these officials belonging to the sport’s head office too are at the games. It is said that those who have gone to see the matches are hot favourites of the man who is the Big Shot in the game.

Out in the open

There is this official, who is really the second-in-charge of this two wheeled sport who has not attended a single meeting during the past two years. Officials of this sport say that they do not even know his colour! But he is a very powerful man and has used his power to overcome several tough situations in the past. But this time with the AGM of this sports body due to be held soon, looks as if he will have to come into the open! What then?
