Shankuleela: Kathakali and Mohiniyattam performance

The Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo will present Shankuleela, a Kathakali and Mohiniyattam performance by Hirimbura Gamage Madusanka Priyadesha, Leakhani Wathsala Jayasinghe and Jaystheepa Sakthivel at 6 p.m. on Monday, February 23 at its auditorium located at 16/2, Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.

Hirimbura Gamage Madusanka Priyadesha completed his BA at the Kelaniya University and trained in kathakali at Kerala’s Kalamandalam university. He has been a professional dancer in the Chandana Wickramasinha dance troupe and is presently dancing in the Aru Sri Art Theatre. He is also director and chorographer for the Shanku Priyadesh dance group.

Leakhani Wathsala Jayasinghe, a Member of the Dark Worries Dancing Academy teaches dance at the Umar Dancing Academy. She was placed 1st at the Derana City of Dance Solo Competition.

Jaystheepa Sakthivel has completed her M.F.A (Masters in Fine Arts) in Bharatha natyam from Bharathidasan University, India. She has learnt all the different forms of Indian classical dance such as Bharatha natyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi and Kathak. She has performed in many shows in India and Sri Lanka. She runs her own dance school, ‘Noopurakshethram’.
