Shelton Wanasinghe passes away

Veteran civil servant Shelton Wanasinghe, who was the founder of the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA), passed away yesterday. He was 89.
Mr. Wanasinghe joined the Civil Service in 1946. In addition to being the founder and director of SLIDA, he also served on the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) from May 1971 to June 1986.

After retiring from the UN, he was appointed Chairman of the Presidential Administrative Reforms Commission (1986-1987) and served as Chairman of the Salaries and Cadres Commission (1987-1989).  His funeral service will be held at St. Pauls’ Church, Milagiriya at 3.30 p.m. tomorrow followed by cremation at the General Cemetery, Borella at 5.00p.m.
