A ‘No Confidence’ motion signed by 114 MPs, a majority of the House, against Minister of Public Order, Disaster Management and Christian Affairs John Amaratunga, was yesterday handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament Dammika Dasanayaka.

Leader of the Opposition, Nimal Siripala De Silva said that the majority of MPs have lost confidence in Minister Amaratunga, following the attack on the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, as well as continuing post-election violence, particularly in the Nawalapitiya area.

“The Minister has failed to take action against the culprits who continue to attack supporters of the UPFA,” Mr De Silva said after handing over the motion.

Meanwhile, a daylong adjournment debate on “Post-Election Violence” will be held in Parliament on Tuesday.
