Japan donates over 250 tons tinned fish for North school lunches

Under the World Food Program (WFP), the Japanese government has funded the donation of over 250 metric tonnes of tinned fish worth over Rs 205 million, for the school lunch of 160,000 students in the North. A symbolic quantity of the donation was handed over to Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake on Feb.2 at the Finance Ministry.

Minister Karunanayake, speaking on the occasion, said this donation, which benefits the students of the North, will also be a landmark in the history of the long-standing friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan.

WFP Resident Director, Ismail Omar who facilitated the donation, also spoke on the occasion.
