Uncollected garbage bags with their smelly contents spilled are a common sight on city roads these days

These polythene bags with their rotting contents expose the unhygienic side of the seasonal merrymaking and the disregard of authorities responsible for clearing the garbage.

Bad hygiene and festive events seem to go hand-in-hand in and around Colombo

and crows rip open these bags spilling the smelly contents on the roadside..

Urban citizens have long realized that those people responsible for the collection of garbage are not obliging if the seasonal ‘something’ is not given them (this despite the fact that they are paid workers).

They set their timetable to match the calendar, surprising residents with their punctual visits during festive times.

However, with the festive season over, the garbage can be said to have gone to the dogs and the crows..

“The failure to collect garbage is causing a health hazard and the local authority in the area should take action, said Dinesh Ranjan from Kaduwela.
