Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has directed all State and private electronic media not to air the ‘Janapathi Jana Hamuwa’ television programme scheduled for telecast tomorrow. His directive follows a complaint lodged by United National Party (UNP) MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa.
Mr Rajapaksa told the Sunday Times that during a meeting with the Elections Commissioner, they were informed that he has written to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information and the heads of media not to allow such TV programmes to be aired.

Meanwhile, Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said, “If this particular TV programme comes within the guidelines issued by the Elections Commissioner, government will not allow its telecast, if not, we will allow it to be aired,” he said.
“State lawyers will decide whether it comes within the guidelines or not,” he said.
