Two clusters of MAS Holdings the Slimline Boxing Club Pannala and MAS Southern Koggala emerged champions at the 89th ABA Men’s and Women’s National Boxing Championship which concluded at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

Men’s category best boxer, R.G.S. Kumarasinghe of Navy in action

Slimline BC was in full command in the finals of the men’s category with all three boxers who qualified to the final winning their bouts. Slimline BC also won three bronze medals which was sufficient for them to emerge champions.

Navy BC took the second spot winning three gold and two bronze medals while defending champions Army BC though having six of their boxers’ qualifying to the final was able to win only two gold, four silver and one bronze medal and had to be satisfied with the third position.

MAS Southern succeeded to retain the women’s title winning five gold, one silver and two bronze medals while MAS Unichela secured the second spot with two gold’s one silver and two bronze medals followed by Police.

Navy BC had the honour of producing the most scientific boxer of the meet in the men’s category in R.G.S. Kumarasinghe while MAS Southern’s J.A.D. Jayasinghe took the best boxers’ award in the women’s category.

The best losers’ in the two categories were S.N. Heelbathdeniya of Slimline BC ‘B’ in the men’s and Niranjala Senanayake of MAS Casualline in the women’s.

Apart from that M.Y.M. Dilshan of Air Force was adjudged the most outstanding boxer for the year 2014 and Slimline BC besides emerging champion team was also adjudged the most successful club for the year 2014 which they won for the second time in a row.
