Sri Lanka Cricket has made arrangements to keep the Lankan cricket team back in New Zealand once their official tour of that country is over. This will be in preparation for the 2015 World Cup where the Lankans would meet New Zealand in the tournament opener at Christchurch.

SLC’s Head of Operations Carlton Bernadus, speaking to the Sunday Times said “The executive committee took this decision to shift the team from Wellington to Christchurch so that they would become well acclimatised to the environment of the area in which they would be playing their tournament’s first match. Even the spouses of the cricketers would be hosted by the SLC during this time.”

Bernadus further said that not only the cricketers, but the entire backup team will also be housed in New Zealand from January 30 to February 6 so that they could be occupied in some training. The ICC will take over the Lankan’s team stay in New Zealand and Australia from February 7.
Bernadus also added that the logistics of bringing the cricketers back on January 30 and taking them to New Zealand back again within six days was more complicated.

Sri Lanka will play South Africa in their first warm-up game on February 8 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, before taking on New Zealand at the same venue on February 14. Sri Lanka will also play another warm-up game against Zimbabwe on February 11 at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln also in Christchurch. The Lankan cricketers are scheduled to play their only two-day warm up game of the tour today against a New Zealand XI at the Queenstown Events centre.
