Rain mars Sylvestrian dance
St. Sylvester’s College were denied a first ever win over hometown rivals St. Anthony’s College by a combination of rain interruptions and bad light, and had to settle for a moral victory at Katugastota yesterday. Middle-order batsman Damithra Panditharatne played a sterling defensive innings to help thwart the Sylvestrians.
Left-arm spinner Nimesha Mendis was the wrecker with a match bag of 12 for 43 (19.2-11-17-7 and 20-11-26-5). Yet, even he found the task of finishing off the Antonians too difficult. Sumedha Dissanaike and Hansamal Perera made 39 runs apiece while opener Mohamed Rifaz top scored with 45. The Antonians have lost one game and been under severe pressure in the other three.
