Soldiers and airmen declared joint champs

Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force were declared joint champions of the Sri Lanka Kabaddi Championship 2013 which was held at the Sri Lanka-German Friendship Football Stadium in Matara last weekend. The final between SL Army and SL Air Force could not be conducted due to poor light conditions as the organisers declared both finalists as joint champs. In the men’s segment Army ‘A’ beat Air Force ‘B’ in the first semi-final to reach the final as Air Force ‘A’ defeated Navy ‘A’ in the second semi-final to qualify for the final. Army’s Lance Corporal Chameera Kumara was adjudged the best men’s player. In the women’s segment semi-finals Air Force beat Army and Navy thrashed Meepawela Sports Club Galle to qualify for the finals. In the third place playoff Army beat Meepawela SC. The best player award in the women’s segment went to Navy’s Madushani Chathuri. A total of 15 men’s teams and 10 women’s teams competed at the championship which was jointly organised by the Sri Lanka Amateur Kabaddi Federation and the Matara District Kabaddi Association.
