The book was 12 years in the making. The Sinhala translation of ‘Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the Bhagavad Gita: A New Translation and Commentary Chapters 1 to 6’, first published by the Penguin Group in 1967 has now been released. The first copy of the book was presented to MP Karu Jayasuriya by the translator Mr. U.L.L de Silva of Pitakotte in late June.

In his introduction to the book, the Maharishi said, “The Bhagavad Gita is the Light of Life, lit by God at the altar of Man to save humanity from darkness of ignorance and suffering. It is a scripture which outlives time and can be acknowledged as indispensable to the life of any man in any age.”

The Bhagavad Gita is recorded in the Bhishma Parva of the great classic Mahabharatha by the enlightened consciousness known as Rish Veda Vyasa. It is composed of 18 chapters in 701 verses which contain the quintessence of the most practical and valuable philosophy of Yoga and Vedant.

The Sinhala edition is available in Sarasavi bookshops across the island. See http://www.sarasavi.lk/Book/Bhagawad . Geethawa-908060058X
