The Irrigation Engineering Diplomates Association (IEDA) formerly the Irrigation Technical Assistants Union (ITAU) celebrates its 60th anniversary today, August 25 at the IEDA’s headquarters, No 15, Melfort Crescent, Dehiwela. The commemoration meeting begins at 10.15 a.m. and concludes at noon. It will be followed by lunch.

The chief guest will be the most senior of the members who attended the inaugural meeting while the others who attended that meeting will be guests of honour.

The ITAU was registered by the Registrar of Trade Unions on August 7, 1953. The name change occurred in 1993. All members are holders of a diploma in engineering. There were 186 members at the inauguration and the IEDA currently has 300 members. The association has its own building with hostel accommodation for outstation members, separate units for families, a billiards room etc.
