IPM Campaigns for Career Guidance

View(s):

This August the Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka (IPM) will pursue career consciousness building amongst the country’s youth. This effort by the IPM is mainly to provide essential skills for the youth so as to provide them with better employment opportunities as well as to enhance their knowledge in career choice.

IPM has scheduled two one-day awareness programs to be held on 19 and 31 August. This awareness building initiative is part of IPM’s Program in Career Guidance and Development (PCGD), and will be headed by IPM’s trained staff. It will cover over 100 schools in some of the major towns of the island, including Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Negombo, Gampaha and Matara, where the IPM will distribute exercise-books for the students sitting for the Advanced-Level Exam this year. These books will contain information regarding the PCGD providing the students the ideal opportunity to gain vital pre-career training.

IPM’s Program in Career Guidance and Development (PCGD) is a unique six-week course designed by the institute to provide proper career guidance for school leavers thus affording them with the advantage of being able to select the ideal tertiary education path or professional training which will complement their talents, their choice in career and most importantly their aspirations in life.

The PCGD is perfect for those students who have sat for their A/Ls and are considering the different career options in store. The course provides essential business communication skills, personality enhancement skills, time management, business ethics, decision making and problem solving, and an overview of the current business environment. The modules in the PCGD course have been selected to complement each other and to aid students in identifying their career – in human resource management (HRM) or any other. Armed with these skills students have a greater leverage in selecting their ideal career path and in their lives’ undertakings.

IPM is Sri Lanka’s leading institute for providing knowledge and skill training in human resource management. With over 40 years of experience in the field the IPM has come a long way in creating excellence in human resource management in the country. IPM currently offers a range of HRM related courses and training programs focusing on entry level to professional level. As an HRM focused institution IPM has also taken a leading role in creating a well groomed and versatile workforce for the country.
