A Brotherhood  Discovered at American College of Higher Education

View(s):

It was during the year 1997 that three special lads joined Asoka  College Colombo 10. Little did we know that these three boys would begin a life with each other, a camaraderie that went on for the years to come.

Having started their primary school life together Yukitha Rodrigo,  SandeepaUdawalawwa and WarunaDenawaka  went on to complete their Ordinary Level Examination as well as their Advance Level Examination together. Normally, school life friendships usually stop at the point of A Levels but not in the case of these three young gentlemen. The three of them went on to complete their higher studies at the highly reputable American College of Higher Education, Dehiwala.

It is at American College of Higher Education that these three young men studied the same degree in Engineering with Yukitha doing Computer Science further growing closer now than they ever were back during their younger days.

This article would not be doing them justice if I were not to mention their achievements at the College. Mister Yukitha majored in Computer Science with a college GPA ( Grade Point Average ) of 3.58 while both Mister Sandeepa ( GPA 3.925) and Mister Waruna( GPA 3.4) majored in Mechanical Engineering.

It has also been confirmed by the College that the three men have been accepted to the United States of America where they will further complete their education. Mister Yukitha will  attend Southeast Missouri State University ,USA, Mister Sandeepa will attend Wichita State University, Kansas, USA ; whilst Mister Waruna will be attending Midwestern State University, Texas, USA
At the same time it is in USA that our three best friends will begin their own separate journeys in life.. But saying this we don’t think they will stay apart for too long for we know that in a loving bond such as brotherhood one can not be too far from one another.
Today, we managed to have all three of these fine young gentlemen with us to share a few words on friendship, memories and school life. Readers, we hope you enjoy.

Q. You three consider yourselves close. Would you tell our readers how close.?

Waruna:We’ve been together since grade school  and took part in all our extracurricular activities together. We were also prefects together so I would say best friends.

Sandeepa: I’d say more like brother?

Yuthika: yeah more like brothers.

Q. What was school life like having been together during that time?

Sandeepa :We did everything together. We’ve been inseparable since the first grade right up to A Levels. We had the same classes. In fact; we even rode to school In the same school van! That’s how close we were!

Q. Any funny incidents which took place between the three of you during school? Would you like to share one?

Yuthika: there are so many which took place during  A Levels.

Sandeepa: But the funniest happen during O Levels.  It was during our interval break where we were all hanging out in a lab. A friend of ours found a bottle of Thinner. He took the bottle and poured some of it on the table. We were just fooling around when it suddenly caught alight! That was when a prefect saw the whole thing and complained to a teacher!

Yuthika: we were made to sit and listen as the teacher yelled at us. At one point in anger he screamed, “ you will all end up as terrorists!”  We were quite mischievous during that time. Certainly not any more though!

Q. What about College life here at ACHE? How was that experience?

Waruna:Sandeepa and Yuthika joined after me. College life was actually a lot of fun. There were so many activities we got to do. Not to mention all the amazing friends we made here! I will surely miss them. We’ve been on trips to Hikkaduwa and even hosted several DJ nights.

Sandeepa: Not to mention the fact that we came from an all Boy’s School so having a chance to meet girls was a very new and exciting time as well!

Yuthika:Sandeepa and I are also on the Student Council Committee so we organized a lot of our College events such as the Avurudhu activities and the Dansala.

Q. You three have been together for nearly all your lives and now you will be going your own separate ways.  How do you feel about that?

Waruna: I know we will miss each other dearly but hopefully we can see each other during our summer vacations and semester breaks.
Sandeepa:its going to be really hard. But we made our decisions together, we chose to be engineers and we chose to go to the USA together.  And like Waruna says, we hope to meet during our breaks.

Q. What made you chose three different universities after coming this far?

Sandeepa: our professions required having to go our separate ways because there wasn’t a place we could go together, trust me, if there was; all three of us would have gone there instead of separating like this!

Q. Describe ACHE in One WORD.

Waruna : Awesome.

Sandeepa: Amazing.

Yuthika: Perfect.

Q. My last question,  have you got any advice to the future kids and those who already are in ACHE?

Waruna : ACHE is by far the best. They keep their word when they say they give you a well- rounded education and send you abroad.
Sandeepa :Keep studying and work hard  because a lot of work is required to get a good GPA.  Join other activities and extra curricular work so that you can learn to be a balanced out individual.

We at American College thank Mister Yuthika, Mister Sandeepa and Mister Waruna  for taking part in this interview. We also wish them the very best for all their endeavors in the future.
