What went wrong?

A team took wing to the Caribbean and the items that they were carrying to play in the contest came from a particular individual’s shop. There is a saying that those involved in this sport cannot sell items to teams going abroad as before they took to serve the sports body there had been an agreement that those involved in selling sports goods cannot hold office. Wonder what went wrong and where!

Tere bina

The Champion’s Trophy Cricket tournament started with all the fanfare in the United Kingdom. All participating teams paraded in their entire glory keeping step to music from their countries. When the Sri Lanka team took the spotlight a shocked silence remained as the Hindi song Tere bina was played. Spectators and even the participants were wondering whether the correct team was in the limelight. Whose blunder was it? Couldn’t the organisers, or for that matter even the man in charge of the team, made sure that one of our own delightful tunes was played? What a blunder!

You scratch my back?

The focus was on the Citadel when a man who was to look after the venues was allocated a car and driver for the job. This is usually a private job but no, the Citadel had decided to give the man a vehicle and driver all maintained by the said sports body. It is said that this man was one of the people who garlanded the president when he took over the affairs of the Citadel recently. Could it be a case of ‘You scratch my back, and I will scratch yours’?

Mum’s the word

A key tournament is being planned in August this year but sponsors are fighting shy of coming forward as they have not been given a definite word about it. The body in charge of sports says that the event will take place but the person who has been appointed to see to the working of the competition is silent on the issue. Why this big silence wonder lovers of this popular sport.

The missing laptop

A laptop has gone missing at the Citadel. This is the second one to go missing from this august body. The laptop belonged to a player now representing the country at a premier competition abroad. The disgusted player took another laptop on tour instead. It is understood that an entry has been place regarding the missing laptop and inquiries into its loss will be launch shortly by the authorities concerned.

Two to 16

We are still on the same sport. Nominations have been put forward to select an official to a premier panel and all Division One officials have been alerted to the effect. But to our dismay we find that instead of the usual first fifteen who should be nominated the 2 to 16 have been nominated to select the said official. We wonder why the Number One has not been nominated. Could it be a personal matter?
