Vidyartha College, Kandy schoolboy Udaya Ranasinghe came up with a stunning performance to clinch three titles at the third Open All Island Ranking Table Tennis Championships, organized by the Butterfly Sports Club and played at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium in Mount Lavinia recently.

Ranasinghe started off by defeating his schoolmate Krishan Wickramaratne in a three setter to win the under 15 singles before going on to complete a double by taking the Under 18 also in a three-setter by beating Thilina Wijesiri also of Vidyartha College. He crowned

himself with glory when he prevailed in a grueling four-setter to beat the more experienced Rohan Sirisena of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
In the open women’s singles, Ishara Madurangi did the honours for Sri Lanka Air Force when she overcame schoolgirls Erandi Warusawithana of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda in a nerve wracking five-setter.
Kavsihka Kavindi of Dharmasoka College, Ambalgoda was adjudged the Most Promising Player in the girls’ category, while Udesh Randika of Dudley Senanayake Central College, Tholangamuwa emerged the Most Promising Player among the boys.
