Fine double for Commercial ‘B’
View(s):Commercial Bank ‘B’ bagged the ‘B’ division knock out league hockey title when they posted a 2-1 win over Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank in the final conducted by the MHA at the Astro Turf recently. At half time HSBC led 1-0.
The game had hardly got underway, when full back Mahesh Perera opened a gap in the Commercial Bank defence for centre forward Naveed Nawaz to find the back of the Commercial Bank net.
After the change of ends, Commercial Bank ‘B’ equalised in the 47th minute when veteran centre forward R. Heenkende scored off a pass from Sumith Jayasena.
In the 52nd minute, Commercial Bank sealed victory, when R. Elahena fired the winner off a short corner.
With this win Commercial Bank ‘B’ completed a grand double by winning both the League and Knock-out titles this year.
The game was umpired by W.M.C. Dissanayake and D. Abeyratne, while M. Naushad was the third official. – BM
