The team from the Matara Divisional Secretaries’ area accumulated 127points to win the Sri Lanka Youth Matara District Athletic Championships at the Uyanwatta stadium on Tuesday (May 28). The teams from the Weligama DS’s area were second with 119 points and Akuressa DS area third with 86 points.

The Sri Lanka Youth Federation (Matara) and the Matara District office of the National Youth Services Council jointly organized this meet in preparation for the 25th National Youth Sports Festival to be held in Polonnaruwa next month.

The following were adjudged champion athletes,
Under 20 Girls – Naduni Lochana Nilaweera (Matara)
Under 20 Boys – Buddhika Dilan (Weligama)
Over 20 Girls – K G C Ishara (Mulatuiyana)
Over 20 Boys – T H D Priyashantha (Matara)

Southern Provincial Councilor Kanchana Wijesekera gave away the awards. Sarath de Alwis Director of the Ruhuniu Development Bank and Walter Dissanayake Provincial Director of the National Youth Services Council were also preset.
