The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) President’s Challenge Cup, a knockout tournament hosted by Beruwela Football League kicked off last Sunday in Beruwela. This year, at this inter-club football extravaganza of Beruwela, has drawn 18 top teams including all four semi-finalists of last year’s competition who will be automatically qualify for the quarter-finals this year.

The organisers have divided the teams into two groups. The Group ‘A’ includes Zavia SC, Light House SC, Super Sun SC, Great Stars SC, Golden Rise SC, Dharga York SC, New Young Stars SC, Eleven Eagles SC and newcomers Carlton United SC. The Group ‘B’ includes YMSC, Berbaryn SC, United SC, Liverpool SC, Greenline SC, Super Stars SC and debutants Arabians SC, Red Line SC and Gazelles SC. From the lot last year’s semi-finalists Zavia, Light House, Berbaryn and YMSC will enter straight into the quarter-finals.

The victorious team will be awarded the FFSL President’s Challenge Cup, donated by Ranjith Rodrigo, the President of FFSL. They will also be eligible for a cash reward of Rs. 15,000 and certificates. The runner-up team will receive a trophy, certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. All matches will be played at the Zahira College ground in Dharga Town with the kick off starting at 4.00pm daily.
