Gateway students off to US to participate at Harvard MUN

In the coming week, a delegation of 10 students from Gateway College Colombo will take part in the Sixtieth Session of the Harvard Model United Nations. HMUN, which will be held from January 31st to February 3rd. It is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious United Nations simulation for high school students held in the United States.

The students of Gateway, who have undergone coaching and training sessions arranged by the school in preparation for this event, will gain insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets. HMUN is an exciting opportunity for students to debate issues that confront world leaders and to draft resolutions in response to these global issues.

Taking part in HMUN will give the Gateway students an opportunity to develop their abilities to work with others who are equally motivated and passionate about the topics of debate and to respond to global concerns. The programme also includes a College Fair that will allow the students to learn about study in the USA and to create contacts that will facilitate higher studies. Taking part in this event is a part of Gateway’s commitment to prepare its students for the challenges of a highly demanding, ever-changing world.
The students taking part are Isuri Wijesundara, Deepana Chandrasekera, Rukshana Sundar, Thanuja Padmanabhan, Dimuth Panditharatne, Sanjula Weerawardhane, Devon Mallawarachchi, Lakith Weerasinghe, Onicha Roy Francis and Shalini Shanmuganathan.
