Ashen Deemantha of the Southern Province was named the Best Player of the Under 15 inter-provincial tournament, conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.

Ashen with his trophy

His tally of 168 runs, at an average of 33.6, in the five provincial games he played in as well as the nine wickets he captured was sufficient to secure him the honour of being the first southerner to receive this trophy.

Ashen performed well during the tournament. The following are his bowling and batting figures during the competition: North Central Province 21 runs and two wickets, Central Province 79 runs and one wicket, Uva Province 14 runs and one wicket, North Central Province 53 runs and two wickets, Western Province South (Seminfinal) one run and three wickets.

Ashen, a grade ten student of St Servatius College Matara, owes his success to his dedication and the tireless efforts of his school coach AM Priyantha.
