Problems facing the families of Sri Lankans working abroad and how these families could be helped were taken up for discussion at a meeting organised by the Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare, on Thursday at the Mannar district Secretariat,

At the meeting chaired by the Additional GA Stanley de Mel and attended by Hesoli Perera bureau manager of the ministry and provincial officials it was revealed that many persons from the district had left for employment abroad.

It was also pointed out that the families of these workers were facing a variety of problems such as being unable to communicate with each other.

It was also pointed out that around 25 children whose parents were working abroad were being cared for by Children’s homes.

The need for a means to help these children communicate with their parents was emphasised.
