Police ‘A’ defeated Police ‘B’ by two goals to nil in the final of the Government Services Inter Departmental seven-a-side soccer championship at the CR and FC grounds recently. At the short whistle the ‘A’ team held a 1-0 lead.

Centre half Dilanka Fernando fired the opener for the ‘A’ team and after the turn around, centre forward S.M.M. Siriwardena booted the second to give the ‘A’ team a 2-0 win.

The best player award was won by Dilanka Fernando and the best goal keeper was Dumith Shashika, both of the Police ‘A’ team.

The tournament which attracted 14 teams was organized by the Sri Lanka Government Sports Society.

While Police ‘A’ won the champions trophy, the ‘B’ team were awarded the runner-up trophy and two trophies were awarded to the Municipal Council teams of Galle and Ratnapura.

The game was refereed by Z.A. Ousman. The chief guest was retired DIG Upali Hewage who distributed the trophies and medals. – BM
