The Sunday Times has decided to dedicate this column to its readers so that they can comment about contents in our sports columns and features and also write their own thoughts on various sports with letters to the editor.Their views however are not necessarily those of the newspaper.

With great pleasure, enthusiasm and interest I have watched international cricket matches played in Sri Lanka. But since of late, I am gradually losing interest and the enthusiasm to watch matches in Sri Lanka.

My interest in watching cricket is waning die to various reasons. To start with when one reads the goings on in the Cricket Board one gets so discouraged and fed up of Sri Lanka Cricket. The politicization, the infighting, the frauds, mismanagements, problems in selecting teams etc, etc. All these happenings bombard into one’s mind year after year and erode a person’s interest in the game.
When international matches are played here the hassle of getting tickets, the red tape and the astronomical prices of tickets gets one’s interest in cricket go down to the doldrums.

No one is interested in uplifting and putting into use the international cricket stadium in Dambulla, where the weather in that area will permit more matches to be played and avoid the rain. See what is happening now? At most times important matches are washed out, not played or incomplete matches are decided on the D/L method!

No one wants to watch an incomplete match and wait for D/L decisions. Frequent happenings like this takes away the interest of watching matches especially when Sri Lanka is in the finals, where we can always predict the results. This has happened so many times.
Then the frequent talk about match fixing and players of various teams getting caught for this is not good news for cricket lovers. Sometimes I wonder whether I am watching a real match or a fake one where only the players will know who will win or lose. This very thought and the thought that I am being taken for a ride just drains away the interest I have for cricket.
