The Olympic Council of Asia in collaboration with the Sri Lankan National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka launched the Fun Run and Learn programme and the Asian Games News Reporter Programme at the Dharmaraja College Hall in Kandy yesterday.

This is an exercise to educate the youth in the Asian region about the 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the XVII Asiad which is the largest sporting event in Asia governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It is scheduled to take place in Incheon, South Korea

Last morning fifty students (boys and girls) from the Central Province were invited to take part in the ‘Young Sports Reporter’ programme with workshop being conducted by Zhou Jian of the OCA, media department.

There the students were taken to the many aspects of journalism and reporting that included questions and answer programmes and a mock report writing session.

Kandy is the 16th city in the Asian Region to host the Fun Run and Learn Programme and the fifth to conduct the ‘Young Sports Reporter’ programme.

The highlight of yesterday’s mock report programme was the winner of the event would be given the opportunity to be a part of the Incheon Games in 2014. The winner will be made public during today’s events.

The high point of today’s events will be the fun run quiz in the morning and the 4km fun run in the afternoon session. – SRP
