Life drama on silver screens at AC
View(s):Three cinematic dramas representing different eras will be screened at the weekly film screening on Tuesday at the American Center Colombo during the month of November. The screening will start with Martin Scorsese’S psychological thriller ‘Shutter Island’ on November 6 at 6 pm.
Based on Dennis Lehane’s 2003 novel of the same name Leonardo DiCaprio stars as U.S. Marshal Edward “Teddy” Daniels, who is investigating a psychiatric facility on the titular island. He and his new partner (Mark Ruffalo) are being taken across the water to investigate an escape from a prison for the criminally insane, located on a forbidding rock called Shutter Island.
‘The Shawshank Redemption’ a 1994 American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont and starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman will be scrrned on November 13.
Tim Robbins plays a banker named Andy who’s sent to Shawshank Prison on a murder charge, where he gets to know a life-term prisoner named Red (Morgan Freeman). Andy’s calm, quiet exterior hides a great reserve of patience and fortitude, and Red comes to admire this mild-mannered man who first struck him as weak and unfit for prison life.
‘The Sting’ a 1973 American caper film set in September 1936 that involves a complicated plot by two professional grifters (Paul Newman and Robert Redford) to con a mob boss (Robert Shaw) will be shown on November 20.
Directed by George Roy Hill, the story was inspired by real-life con games perpetrated by the brothers Fred and Charley Gondorff and documented by David Maurer in his book The Big Con: The Story of the Confidence Man.
