Cinema to tighten cultural ties between Italy and Sri Lankan

The Italian Embassy in Colombo held the first edition of the Italian Sri Lankan Film Festival, with the view of strengthening cultural cooperation between Italy and Sri Lanka over the last weekend in Colombo.

Seen in the picture are Movie Directors Paola Randi, Stephano Martina and Boodee Keerthisena together with the Italian Ambassador Fabrizio Pio Arpea and Arun Thapar the Managing Director of Colombo Courtyard.

The two major movies screened were the award winning ‘Into paradiso’, directed by a young, talented Italian director, Paola Randi, starring a Sri Lankan actor, Anthony Saman, the other, ‘Mille Soya’, directed by Sri Lankan filmmaker, Boodee Keerthisena, which had been filmed in Italy and Sri Lanka. The festival which was from October 19 to 21 was held at Cinecity Maradana.

The festival provided the theatre sectors of the two countries the opportunity to meet and widen horizons in the field of movie making through the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

A workshop and a competition for local short movies were held and the contribution of Stefano Martina one of the most experienced Italian professionals in short-movie making ensured valued input to budding Sri Lankan movie makers.
