Golden Key (GK) depositors are to stage a peaceful protest march in Colombo on Friday demanding the authorities to mete out justice having suffered for the past three years and nine months without repayment of their deposits.

The Golden Key Depositors Society and the GKCC All Depositors Association will join hands in organising this protest march from the former GK head office in Bambalapitiya, to the President’s Temple Trees residence in Colombo, Presidents of the two associations, Wasantha Gunathilake and Dushanthi Hapugoda told Business Times.

Ms Hapugoda said that they will hand over a petition to President Mahinda Rajapaksa urging him to intervene in settling this matter and providing a redress for them.

“We are keeping faith on the President and we believe that he would intervene to grant us relief as over 15 depositors have already committed suicide in depression after losing all their life’s savings”, she said. GK depositors have been struggling since 2008 to recover their deposits after the Lalith Kotelawela-led firm collapsed triggering a crisis in many other finance companies.

Despite Rs. 26 billion in depositor funds being played out by GK, former Ceylinco Chairman Kotelawala, ex CEO Kavan Perera and other former directors are still free and leading luxury lives, she charged.
