What is it about

The BA (Hons) Marketing Management award facilitates understanding of the theories and concepts that underpin effective marketing, and the practical skills required to undertake a career in marketing. Key areas covered include the underpinning core modules of marketing principles and marketing in practice, together with additional modules on consumer behaviour, marketing research, marketing communications and international marketing. Combined with other strategic marketing and general business modules, this enables students to acquire a clear understanding of the central role of marketing within the business world, and how contemporary marketing management impacts in a variety of contexts.

What you do

In the first year of the award, you will study the wider business environment, the role of marketing within that environment and how various functions and aspects of an organization come together to serve the market.

In the second year, the emphasis starts to shift towards more specialist study of marketing and how marketing specialists add value to the organization through the understanding of customers. Modules focus on the practice of marketing and include Consumer Behaviour and Business-to-Business Marketing.

The third year of the award is highly focused on marketing, covering key areas such as marketing research, brand management, marketing communications, international marketing and strategic marketing management.

Students will also need to produce a project following an independent investigation in to a specialist area of marketing of their choice. In addition, as you progress through the course, you will acquire a range of business and marketing-specific soft skills valued by employers, supported by a balanced mix of teaching methods and a variety of assessment approaches.

Admission Requirements

The qualifications required for admission are 2 Passes at GCE (Advanced Level) Examination and 5 Passes inclusive of a credit pass in English at the GCE (Ordinary Level) Examination, or successful completion of the APIIT Degree Foundation Programme. Those with additional qualifications may receive advanced entry to higher levels of the programme.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of lectures, tutorials, group discussions, individual/ group presentations, knowledge sessions, industrial visits, video presentations, case studies and a series of research projects. These are intended not only to develop students’ practical skills and application of management techniques in the business, but also to develop their ability to work efficiently in a group or independently in a disciplined and structured environment. Students are required to undertake a project as part of the training. The project requires students to design and carry out research into a business problem.

Career Opportunities

Graduates in marketing management will have the skills and knowledge to start a career in the following areas: Marketing, advertising, public relations, brand management, retailing and general management. Graduates can embark on careers in commercial organizations as application developers or IT system analysts. Typical job areas are Analysts, Application Consultants, Quality Assurance, IT marketing and pre sales, Project Management, Management Trainees, Web Development and also Entrepreneurs offering IT & Business services.
