With a student base of over 37,000, the Institute is today among the largest tertiary education providers in the country outside the university system, giving the opportunity for students from both rural and urban areas to follow a globally recognized chartered accounting course right here in Sri Lanka.

In a history spanning 53 years, the Institute has been instrumental in producing an impressive number of chartered accountants who have played and continue to play an important role in the country’s corporate world.

Chartered accountants are held in high esteem both by society and the business world. Of the present 4200 CA Sri Lanka members, approximately 30 percent of the members serve in top positions overseas scattered across the globe in all continents, which is testament to its qualifications being globally recognised.

Students, who follow the CA course, also have the advantage of undergoing three years practical training from a well-established and recognized organization in the country.

Practical training plays a vital role in building the required skills and competencies of a professional, hence, completion of specified training requirements have become an essential part to become a Chartered Accountant.

At present, the Institute has over 600 training partners, covering a large spectrum of industries in both public practice and non-public practice sectors.

CA Sri Lanka qualified chartered accountants enjoy unparalleled success in both the accounting and non-accounting sectors.   Accountants play a major role in most of the large companies in Sri Lanka, with approximately 70 percent from the top 50 companies listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange having at least one CA Sri Lanka member on their Board.

CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse said, “There is an impressive increase in employment opportunities for Chartered Accountants in all sectors of the economy. Chartered Accountants are in high demand right now and play a pivotal role in even shaping Sri Lanka’s economic outlook. Also, CA Sri Lanka qualified accountants play a major role in some of the leading banking and insurance companies in the world,” he added.

CA Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Mr. Aruna Alwis noted that Chartered Accountants are also identified as professionals who uphold standards in the public interest, driving excellence and influencing decision makers in policy formulation and delivery.

“As the national body of accountants, CA Sri Lanka is continuously working towards enhancing the professional standards of chartered accountants in the country so they can play a much more impressive role in the world of accounting both at a professional level and even at a national level,” he added.
