In order to fulfil the demand for Software Engineers in Sri Lanka and overseas, the OpenArc Industrial Campus launched the Certified Software Engineer course recently. This is a full-time course that could be completed in 18 months.
OpenArc Industrial Campus, Chief Executive Officer Daya Hettiarachchi said, "There is a great demand in Sri Lanka and overseas for Software Engineers. In the whole, we need over 20,000 new Software Engineers every year. But, this much of Software Engineers are not produced in our country due to various reasons. That is the reason for the existence of so much local and overseas vacancies.
A qualified and experienced Software Engineer could earn over Rs. 75,000 a month in Sri Lanka. They could earn over US$ 90,000 a month overseas. The OpenArc Industrial Campus decided to launch the Certified Software Engineer course considering these conditions. Through this course, we aim to create the opportunity for the youth of the country with an aptitude and a liking for software development to advance on their dedication and abilities and earn valuable foreign exchange for the country.
Young persons with an aptitude and liking for computer software development and who have obtained an 'A' or a 'B' pass for Maths in the GC. Ordinary Level examination could apply for this course. The best 20 applicants would be selected through an interview. As the OpenArc Industrial Campus in not operating solely to make money, the course could be followed at a monthly fee of about Rs. 6,950.
The course period is 18 months. Other than that, all students have to complete a project in order to complete the course. At this course, students would be taught PHP, .Net, Java++ and other modern and popular computer languages that are used to develop computer software throughout the world completely and from the beginning.
As simple English is used with explanations in Sinhala is used as the language of instruction. Any student could glean knowledge from this course. Students completing the course with the project would be presented a professional certificate that is recognized locally and internationally. The certificate would be a qualification to study for a post graduate qualification in software engineering in Sri Lanka or overseas.
