Amritha wears the triple crown

By T.B. Rahaman

Muttiah and Rajapakse in action

Amritha Muttiah became the most fortunate player in the 95th Tennis National Championship by winning the mixed doubles event as well yesterday.

Combining with Rajeev Rajapakse the pair managed to beat the top seeds Harshana Godamanne and Shalini de Silva 6/4, 6/4 in the final played in the afternoon.

Earlier, Muttiah won the women’s singles and doubles events as well. She was peaking as the tournament progressed having not played in recent days due to the advanced level examinations.

They played some well placed shots that enforced their opponents into making mistakes. This pattern continued as Godamanne watched helplessly.

Rajapakse and Muttiah played cohesively and executed their plans well. This earned the points needed for victory.
