Air Force fly high in Champions League

Air Force’s footballers knocked Police SC off their pedestal last week, to sit comfortably at the top of the Dialog Champions League with a total tally of 14 points, remaining undefeated at the end of their six matches.

Action last weekend between Army and Renown

In the clash between the league’s top two teams, the Airmen gunned down the Policemen by two goals to one. Police now sit just one point behind Air Force in second place. However they are being closely chased by Don Bosco, who is tied with them on points but trail because of an inferior goal difference.

Meanwhile Blue Star sits in the fourth spot with 11 points but have the luxury of a game in hand, so there is a possibility that with a win they could shoot up to the top of the league.

In the middle of the table there is little to choose from New Young, Ratnam, Saunders and Army, who are separated by a maximum margin of two points. Java Lane and Jupiters, who have still to register a single victory in the six games they have played, could possibly earn a proper result when they meet today at the Maristella Grounds in Negombo today. Jupiters, who are languishing at the bottom of the table, will hope to sure up a defence that has conceded 18 goals so far.

New Young’s gifted striker Aziz Kola has been in prolific form, smacking in an impressive five goals for the season. He is followed by Don Bosco’s Chathura Guneratne and Police’s Rajitha Jayawilal who have both slotted in four goals so far.
