Women’s limited overs final

Colts CC Women’s defeated defending champions Marians Ladies in the final of the Women’s limited over tournament played at the Colts ground to emerge champions. Colts Women having lost their round robin match by 92 runs took sweet revenge by coasting to a 44 runs victory.

The effort put in by Marians Ladies right arm spinner and skipper Shashikala Siriwardena who took four wickets to restrict their opponents to a low score was in vain as their batswomen after making a good start failed to impress when it mattered most. Colts Women’s skipper Chamani Seneviratne winning the toss elected to take first lease of the wicket. Apart from a knock of 39 by Chamani and 29 by Deepika Rasangika the others failed to make any impression.

But the Colts Women succeeded in defending their low score of 162 thanks to poor running in between the wickets as three unnecessary run outs put paid the chances of the defending champions in retaining the title which helped Colts Women immensely. Marians Ladies in their run chase were cruising well but from a healthy 60 for 1 in the 16th over they threw away their chances of victory as they collapsed to a score of just 118 runs.

Colts CC Women’s 162 in 40.1 overs (Chamini Seneviratne 39, Deepika Rasangika 29, Bernie Fernando 20, Nipuni Hansika 16: Shashikala Siriwardena 4 for 29, Dharshani Dharmasiri 2 for 25, Suwini de Alwis 2 for 35)

Marians Ladies 118 in 36.5 overs (Inokia Galagedera 33, Suwini de Alwis 25, Shashikala Siriwardena 17: Sandamali Dolawatte 2 for 19, Hiruka Fernando 2 for 27)
