Low pressure area to move towards India but rains to continue in some areas
View(s):Heavy showers are expected to continue in several provinces across the country, according to the latest weather report. The Meteorology Department said the low-pressure area located northwest of Sri Lanka will move towards India; but showers can be expected in the southwest areas over the next few days.
Showers or thundershowers of 75 mm will occur and cloudy skies are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Northern Provinces and Galle and Matara Districts. Showers are expected in Anuradhapura District as well. Showers and thundershowers will occur in the seas off the coast from Mullaitivu to Galle via Kankasanthurai, Puttalam and Colombo.
Winds will be southwesterly, reaching up to 50-60 km/h across the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, and these sea areas could be rough at times.
The Met Department requests the public to take adequate precautions. The National Building Research Institute has extended its landslide warning of Level 2 for areas in 6 districts including Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kurunegala, and Ratnapura. NBRI requested the public in vulnerable areas to be vigilant about landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cut failures and ground subsidence, and be ready to evacuate.
