RCMS annual report launched
View(s):The annual report of the joint France and Sri Lanka Regional Centre for Maritime Studies (RCMS) in Colombo, at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University has been released.
The centre has a regional scope and aims to strengthen capacities in maritime safety and security, marine environmental protection, and maritime crisis management, including maritime HADR.
It delivers short, operational training courses (typically one to two weeks), complemented by workshops and conferences, bringing together institutional maritime stakeholders.
In just over a year, the centre has delivered around 15 training sessions for around 300 Lankan officials from key administrations (Navy, Coast Guard, port authorities, Police, Customs, and the Marine Environment Protection Authority).
The centre is now open to participants from IORA countries, with initial participation from Bangladesh, the Maldives and Indonesia, among others.
